Another long few weeks of school overload. Too many classes, too many projects, too little time to catch up. Thanks to a Snow Day on Friday, I've actually been able to sleep for ten to twelve hours a night for three nights in a row. Finally feeling rested. I'm remembering the joys of being awake and aware and capable of getting something accomplished without struggle.
[Doing The Thing Is Doing The Thing](https://www.softwaredesign.ing/blog/doing-the-thing-is-doing-the-thing) is a perfect reminder to procrastinators that you need to [[get to work]]. Thinking, talking, dreaming, planning about doing the work isn't actually doing the work. If you are struggling then [[just start]].

## graphic design stuff
[Graphic Design History Resources](https://wemadethis.co.uk/blog/2021/09/graphic-design-history-resources/) by We Made This is the sort of repository that makes me exceedingly happy. A curated list of places to find tons and tons of graphic design inspiration from the wild past. I could easily spend days and days exploring this trove of visual history. I should probably work on updating my [[art inspiration links]] with some of these finds.
[Data To Art](https://www.data-to-art.com) is a curated collection of beautiful images based on data information. Think infographics designed to feel almost like paintings. Quality visuals even if you don't know what the information being displayed actually means.
![[gloveRose.png]]
[Glove Rose](https://www.data-to-art.com/artist/jeremy-wanner/glove-rose) is Olympic Boxing analytics rendered as blooming roses.
[Nullbrook Found Media Archive](https://nullbrook.org) is a passion project of found images and ephemera.

## web stuff
[Web Toolkit](https://rknight.me/intersect/web/toolkit/) by Robb Knight is a collection of web tools and resources. I have a lot of these in my own collection of [[! intro to web resources|web resources]]. I should do a comparison and update when I get the time.
[Volume Editor](https://www.volumecolor.io/editor) is another cool color generator. This one has interesting 3D color space diagrams to explore. I particularly like the ability to quickly generate multi-hue color palettes in Hex or OKLCH.
[My Opinionated CSS Reset](https://vale.rocks/posts/css-reset) by Vale with a solid rationale for decisions made. With more consistent web standards, we don't necessarily need full browser resets like we used to. This is more about having a good clean starting point for building a website.
[CSS Optical Illusions](https://alvaromontoro.com/blog/68091/css-optical-illusions) is a collection of optical illusions generated in CSS. Always interesting to see how the eyes and brain can be so easily confused, especially when it comes to color and size.

[ASCII Clouds](https://caidan.dev/portfolio/ascii_clouds/) from Caidan Williams is a cool web experiment that generates an cloud pattern in a screen-saver-type format. Lots of sliders and tweaks to customize the settings. Fun to play with when you have a spare minute or two.
[Patience.Toys](https://patience.toys) from Toms.Toys is an ASCII river that slowly flows on by with gentle ambient music. No controls, no settings, just a chill place to hang out and calm down.

## gaming stuff
[Evercade](https://evercade.co.uk) creates console and hand-held devices to play retro video-games from the 80s and 90s. Total nostalgia for a gaming nerd like me who played everything he could on the Commodore 64, ColecoVision, and Atari. I had fun flashbacks just cruising the site.
Apple Arcade released [Retrocade](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/retrocade/id6746784702) for iPhone and iPad that allows you to play classic arcade games like Galaga, Centipede, PacMan, and Asteroids. Bummer it doesn't work on my MacBook.
Someone ported [Quake](https://mrdoob.github.io/three-quake/) to [Three.js](https://threejs.org) so you can play it in your browser. Good people doing good things for the world.

## interesting unclassifiable stuff
[AntiRender](https://antirender.com) is an interesting niche tool that makes me so happy to see. You can upload the positive sunny architectural renders of what a proposed space will be and then get an AI generated version of what it is going to look like on a random rainy day in November when there hasn't been any maintenance.
