# week 28 of 2026 **July 12, 2026** ![[Lysak.png|thick painted scene with solitary figure looking out over ocean sky that is opening up into a sunny portal]][Grygorii Lysak](https://www.instagram.com/gregorylysak/) creates interesting dimensional abstracts with a spatial, architectural feel. I would love to see his work in person to see how thick that paint really gets. --- Not a lot this week. We've been busy with medical appointments and daily survival. I did find a few places to go back and look at it when I have more time to explore. --- ## inspirational stuff [The Ephemera Society of America](https://www.ephemerasociety.org) has collections of visual artifacts that weren't designed to last. Good graphic design history in the form of ads, broadsides, posters, calling cards, calendars, greeting cards, labels, etc. [Things Magazine](https://www.thingsmagazine.net) is a fun site about objects, collections, and discoveries. Tons and tons of links to all sorts of interesting things to explore on the web. One of those sites worth visiting every now and then to find something new. ![[swordManiacSkyline.png|night city scene from Sword Maniac 1994]] From Things Magazine above, I found [Pixel Skylines](https://pixelskylines.tumblr.com) a Tumblr of urban backgrounds from old video games. Similarly, [VintageCG](https://www.youtube.com/@VintageCG/videos) is a YouTube channel focusing on early computer graphics from the 70s and 80s. [Katalog](https://katalog-barbaraiweins.com/#images) is one person's obsessive collection of photos of objects. There are currently almost 13,000 objects photographed. Some are well designed objects and some are worn things that you would normally ignore. Kind of neat to scroll through. ## creativity quote > I don't even think about art. People want to pull me into the art thing all the time… _Is this art or isn't this art… What is art?_ I think people do what they feel like doing, and not authenticating things… Are you wasting your time or are you just simply doing what you feel like doing and that you like doing? > > — Sheila Hicks (from [The Marginalian](https://www.themarginalian.org/2026/06/27/sheila-hicks/)) This is a good reminder for the sort of creative stuff I've been doing lately. Just playing around for the sake of playing around. It isn't art but it is creativity. I'm finding/making things that make me happy. Don't care if anyone else likes it or not. Not even sure I'm happy with what comes out of the process. I do enjoy playing and that's enough. For example, I made this from photos of wood and water that I took in my backyard. No idea what it is saying but it calms me down… ![[woodSunset.png|sunset over water with floating object in foreground]]
