I love the layered textures [Owen Gent](https://www.instagram.com/owen_gent/) creates in his paintings. There's a luminous atmospheric glow that adds so much emotional depth. This piece captures my worn, deflated mood this week.

## creative stuff
[Daily Designer](https://www.dailydesigner.net) collects inspirational creativity quotes by celebrity designers in a nifty web layout. Only a few dozen quotes for now but worth bookmarking and visiting regularly.
[Moments](https://www.moments.im) is an early start photo blog site that feels intentionally calm and peaceful. Free for now. Would consider this if I could build a more consistent habit of taking photos.
![[colorPalette.png|art nouveau color palette]]
[Palette Inspiration](https://paletteinspiration.com) creates color palettes based on artists and their paintings, as well as historical styles and genres. A refined interface leads to a deep trove of color inspiration. There's a surprising amount of browns and earth tones.
[Escherllate](https://www.escherllate.app) is a tiled browser drawing app to create repeatable patterns. Enough tools in the free version to let you explore with an option to buy more advanced possibilities.
[Dirty Little Zine](https://dirtylittlezine.com) is an online generator for making classic 8-panel printable fold-up zines. Add images and use built-in fonts to make your own zine and print it out to share with the world. [Dirty Little Library](https://library.dirtylittlezine.com) lets you see what others are creating with the tool.
![[halftone-press_halftone.svg|halftone version of my logo]]
[Halftone Tools]() is a free online tool to convert your images to halftones, risograph, xerox, and other print effects. Combines two effects so can create complex visual distortions.
[Words of Type](https://wiki.wordsoftype.com/) is an online repository of typography related terminology presented in a visually interesting way.
## indie web stuff
[Bubbles](https://bubbles.town) surfaces interesting blog posts by indie web people.
[Personal Sites](https://personalsit.es) is a trove of over 1000 personal websites built by real people. Good inspiration and motivation for everyone thinking of creating or updating their own sites. _I should add my site to the list._
## calm stuff
[Firewood Splitter](https://screen.toys/firewood/) is a simple, calm browser game where you chop firewood. Limited mechanics but gorgeous production. The developer has a number of other interesting [Screen Toys](https://screen.toys), such as [Road Trip](https://screen.toys/roadtrip/) where you drop cars on a passing cow pasture.
[Zen of Things](https://zenofthings.com/) is a minimalist look at well-designed products grouped by category. Only a few categories and objects so far but promises to be an interesting project. I'm a sucker for quality product design even if I usually can't afford expensive fetish-pricing. Thankfully, some of the products featured are actually affordable.
