[Justin Parpan](https://www.instagram.com/justin_parpan) creates night scenes from simplified shapes and layered textures. The warm tones evoke a comfortable and almost magical serenity. Definitely a calm that I need right now.

A difficult personal adventure has prevented me from posting here for far too long. My wife had been having a number of health problems leading to several trips to the emergency room. Ultimately, she was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor. It was removed about three weeks ago and she's been recovering since. Next week we start meeting with doctors for physical and mental therapy, as well as planning for radiation and chemotherapy treatments. It has been a long spring and promises to be a long summer.
My focus and energies have been elsewhere for the last several months. Between caregiving and housekeeping, I have some time to poke through saved content. Nice to revisit things I didn't have time to explore earlier.

## web art toys
[What Color Was The Sky](https://sinceyouarrived.world/sky) by [Since You Arrived](https://sinceyouarrived.world) is a surprisingly refined tool for seeing what last night's sky was like at sunset for any location on the planet. Enter your location and you get a poetic presentation of information about the weather as you watch the sunset colors fade to night over the course of about a minute. Nice moment of zen whenever you need it.
[InkField](https://ileivoivm.github.io/inkField/) is an in-browser art painting editor with fun ink effects. Surprisingly robust toolset. Good toy to play around with. Could probably make something amazing if you took the time to try.
## cool collections
[Storied Colors](https://storiedcolors.com/browse/) is an archive of 250 named colors with fascinating histories and background to how the color was created and how it was used. Think of these as compelling short stories with characters like **Annatto** (seed dye used for body paint and to color cheese) to **Blaze Orange** (bright safety orange used to minimize deer hunting accidents) to **Pompeian Red** (a vermillion that darkened to an oxide red after being exposed to volcanic heat and buried for centuries).

[Tiny Toy Robots](https://tintoyrobots.com/robots/) is a heartfelt collection of old tin robots and atomic characters dating all the way back the 1940s.
[Unruly Play](https://www.unrulyplay.com) is an archive of random, odd, and interesting events and objects from the past with a focus on creative play. Lots of bizarre installations and projects that prove creativity and play can be more varied than traditionally expected.
## interesting artists
![[fontenasi.png]]
[Fontanesi](https://www.instagram.com/fontanesi/) creates collages out of two unrelated images to build new contexts. Some of these are quite clever. Nice attention to detail in how the two pieces are lined up. Sometimes it takes a moment to find the edge.

Takaaki Yagi's [Still City](https://yagitaka.com/still-city) series evokes imaginary geometric worlds with wonderful noisy textures. Reminds me of the [Monument Valley](https://www.monumentvalleygame.com/mv3) video games. Yagi's site also includes many interesting architectural installations and physical artwork.

[Fletcher Sibthorp](https://fletchersibthorp.com/artworks/) creates architectural oil paintings with layered grids and patterns. This sort of layout resonates with my need for order and texture. Each painting features an anonymous person inhabiting these spaces.
