### an update
2026 has been an adventure for me. My wife has been in and out of the hospital for a variety of reasons. I've been sick off and on, although never to the point of needing hospitalization. I'm overloaded with work and have little time to catch up on sleep, let alone personal projects. We had a minor house fire in mid-February that destroyed my MacBook, which is where the construction files are for this website. After six weeks of dealing with Apple, I now have a brand new laptop. Now I can work on catching up with all my projects, including sharing some of the neat things I've discovered.

## random neat things

[Paintings of paintings](https://francescrossley.com/paintings-of-paintings/) is a perfectly named collection of paintings that include paintings in them. Not many in the collection yet but I hope it continues to grow.
[World Wide Labyrinth Locator](https://labyrinthlocator.org/w) helps you to locate labyrinths, mazes, formal walking paths to explore. Turns out there are several near me that might become destinations now that the weather is warming up.
Once again, Animation Obsessive has a great deep dive into a fascinating niche topic. [How the little guy moved](https://animationobsessive.substack.com/p/how-the-little-guy-moved) talks about early computer animation that used a surprisingly painstaking process of digitizing film stills to create animated movement. This process is what made 80s games like Karateka and the original Prince of Persia so amazing. Proof that ingenuity and a lot of hard work can create something memorable.
[Rename World](https://rename.world) is a world map with crowd-sourced new and improved names for real locations. Lots of silliness and punny word play. I work in Lansing, Michigan, which is the capital of the state. Just down the road is East Lansing, which is the home of Michigan State University. According to the folks on this site, Lansing is really just West East Lansing, which sort of makes sense.
## neat web things
I've discovered a lot of cool web stuff lately. Listing the new finds here but then need to update my [[web resources]] pages. Probably need to check links to make sure those resources are still functional.
[Oat](https://oat.ink) is a lightweight UI library using semantic HTML to create a huge collection of web components.
[Colorflow](https://colorflow.ls.graphics/) is a tool to build gradient mesh graphics for the web.
IndieWeb web thing: [Jason Kottke’s RDO Rolodex](https://kottke.org/rolodex/) is a great collection of sites and people to check out. This could easily be a perfect starter page for discovering how amazing the web can be. Many of the people I already follow are represented here.

## cool quotes
Don't remember the context for this first one, but I like what the phrase implies.
> …this handful of unchosen stardust on short-term loan from the universe.

## neat interactive web stuff
[Mew Clicker](https://chad-clicker.vercel.app) is also called Chad Clicker so I had to include it in the list. Total millennial game where you click to build up your Mewing skills to be more appealing to the ladies. Pretty well built game with power-ups and fun graphics.
[Aimee’s Papercraft World](https://aimees-papercraft-world.com) is an interactive portfolio that feels like you are in a 3D paper diorama. Cute.

[Web Rewind](https://www.web-rewind.com) is an over the top history of the internet based on important chronological milestones ranging from the 90s through today. Strong graphics, music, and effects. Lots of fun to explore. The nostalgia hits hard for me with this one.
[World Flight Sim](https://worldflightsim.com/) is an in-browser flight simulator that uses Google Earth (I think) so you can fly over your hometown. Big cities actually have 3D buildings and foliage while smaller rural towns are just flat landscape with satellite pictures. Still, pretty dang cool.
