# week 42 of 2025 **October 20-26** ![[madgwick.png]] [Lee Madgwick](https://leemadgwick.co.uk) creates haunting architectural pieces that are empty of life in a surreal sort of way. The moody atmosphere captures the dark mindset I've been inhabiting lately. My dad died a little over a week ago. Life was suddenly busy with new things for a long stretch of time. I'm trying to get back to my scheduled activities, if only to have a better sense of structure to my days. I'm still in a slow, mellow, unfocused frame of mind and probably will be for quite some time. Lee's contemplative pieces seem appropriate. --- ## small web stuff Gentle reminder to get yourself away from the big platforms and seek the small independent work. That's where the good stuff is. > Seeking out lesser-known voices isn't just an act of cultural curation; it's a philosophical stance, a refusal to let attention be the only metric that matters. Because the most interesting stuff usually happens on the margins. > > — Kai from [Dense Discovery](https://www.densediscovery.com/issues/361) ## neat web services [OpenWebcamDB](https://openwebcamdb.com) has over 2000 live streaming webcams you can watch. There's everything from animal enclosures to landscapes to public squares. I particularly like watching [automated Chinese warehouse robots working](https://openwebcamdb.com/webcams/chinese-robotic-warehouse-buzz). [Size Matters](https://sizematters.netlify.app) is another cool Type Scale Generator for creating responsive web typography. ## design software [Amadine](https://amadine.com) is an intriguing vector drawing app for the Mac and iDevice ecosystem. Even though I teach Adobe products, I'm not a huge fan of the company. Affinity Designer is my go-to app but there's weird things happening there now that Canva has bought the company and removed the apps from their storefront. Maybe Amadine will be my new vector drawing app to explore. [Tumult Hype](https://tumult.com/hype/) is a program to create HTML 5 interactive web content and animations. Since the output is for web content, I can see this being a more web-centric alternative to AfterEffects or Adobe Animate. It is available for the Mac and iPad. ## creative stuff ![[sunday.gif]] The new identity for a global day of climate action called [Sun Day](https://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/collins-sun-day-graphic-design-project-061025) has an unfinished logo that encourages the users to complete it with their own artistic marks. It is a clever way to get users to become more active in the movement. [Space Exploration Logo Archive](https://spaceexplorationlogoarchive.webflow.io) is a surprisingly deep collection of branding for international space agencies and companies. It is organized by category and displayed in chronological order. Tons of great inspirational stuff here. ![[damato.png]] [D’Amato Design](https://blog.damato.design) has a series of articles and tutorials on web design with good solid content. The fun here is that the articles have covers parodying the ubiquitous O'Reilly Media books that seem to be everywhere these days. ## animation stuff Aaron Blaise (_Brother Bear, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast_) has a new self-driven short called [**_Snow Bear_**](https://snowbearshort.com) that is attracting a lot of critical celebration. His [YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/@AaronBlaiseArt) is full of amazing knowledge that all junior animators should absorb. > One of the great quotes by Ollie Johnston was, "Don't animate what a character is doing; animate what they're thinking." That's gonna dictate what they do, how they do it, everything else. > > — Aaron Blaise (interview with [Animation Obsessive](https://animationobsessive.substack.com/p/aaron-blaise-on-animation))
