# week 41 of 2025 **October 6-12** ![[browning.webp]] [Rob Browning](https://www.instagram.com/robbrowningart/) creates art that is delightfully surreal. I was sick last week and this is kind of how I felt through the floating fever dreams. --- ## psychology of design [Issue 527 of the Smashing Magazine newsletter](https://mailchi.mp/smashingmagazine/527-psychology-and-human-behavior?e=4a3254ef96) has some exceptional articles on the psychology of design and how it affects both users and designers. These are the magic trick mindsets that help with communicating information. - The [Cognition Catalog from Beyond UX Design](https://www.beyonduxdesign.com/the-cognition-catalog/) breaks down common biases and mindsets to help designers understand how users will experience their products. - [UX Glossary from Built For Mars](https://builtformars.com/ux-glossary) collects how different psychological principles can be used to improve conversion rates, get users to purchase something, or understand the value of something. - [Laws of UX](https://lawsofux.com) is a collection of cognitive biases and psychological "laws" with a lot of overlap with design principles. I really dig the visual style and color scheme here. - [Cognitive Biases from Sketchplanations](https://sketchplanations.com/categories/cognitive-bias) are cute illustrated cards that distill the ideas into little sticky notes for quick understanding. ## mac apps [Mac Open Web](https://macopenweb.com) is another good list of open source Mac apps organized by category. All open source but not all financially free. Sometimes you need to pay for quality. ## gaming distraction [Jelly Well](https://walaber-ent.itch.io/jelly-well) feels like a squishy Tetris at first but turns into something completely different rather quickly. Fun stylish gameplay coupled with entertaining sound effects. Good distraction for when you have some time to kill.
