[Shouxin13141](https://www.instagram.com/p/DMaca-GJN_9/?img_index=1) creates these amazing minimal drawings of animals (mostly cats) out of simple pencil scribbles. Such economic mastery of marks to convey form.

After a few weeks spent mostly away from the computer, I have a lot of cool stuff to share. My daughter's room is now finished (minus hanging the window blinds). I'm getting ready for school to start back up in the upcoming week. So now I have a short bit of time to poke around the neat and explore my feeds.
### animation history
I love the [Animation Obsessive](https://animationobsessive.substack.com) newsletter. This recent article on [When Disney Went Digital](https://animationobsessive.substack.com/p/when-disney-went-digital) tells the story of how Disney kept the migration to computers secret for a long time because they didn't want to ruin their legacy of using human artists. I was creating art using digital tools in the early 90s when everyone thought the computer was somehow "cheating" so I get why they made the decision to hide their process. Thankfully that stigma has mostly disappeared.
### creative mindset resources
I'm a big fan of [[make a zine|zines]], having made them myself way back in the 80s and 90s, and now introducing them to my current design students. The [Virtual Zine Library](https://www.sherwoodforestzinelibrary.org) has over 3,000 zines digitized and available for reading.
[Good Internet Magazine](https://goodinternetmagazine.com) is an online and print collection of articles related to the slow web, indie web, blogging, and other forms of creative expression.
[Indie Aisle Guides](https://indieaisle.com/guides/) is a collection of mini-guides on the indie web and creating a personal platform for sharing your creativity.
### finding your life's meaning
[What is your Ikigai? from The View Inside Me](https://theviewinside.me/what-is-your-ikigai/) has a cool Venn diagram breaking down the search for your personal meaning of life. [Ikigai](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikigai) is a Japanese concept that literally translates to 'a reason for being'. I love the secondary of combinations of Passion, Mission, Profession, and Vocation as well. This is a healthy way of looking at your life.

### explore indie blog posts
I'm trying to find more indie web resources and communities. Break free of the algorithms and big platforms. Here's a few places to find **real people talking about real stuff without the fluff**™.
- [Satus.lol](https://status.lol/) - the public status log archive of omg.lol. I have a (sporadic) [status log](https://mister-chad.status.lol) there myself. Not a lot of deep stuff here but still pretty cool to scroll through.
- [Micro.Blog Discover](<https://micro.blog/discover>) - I'm thinking of also joining here, especially since it is now [free for teachers (and nurses)](https://www.manton.org/2025/08/01/microblog-now-free-for-teachers.html).
- [Bear Blog Discover](https://bearblog.dev/discover/) - happy with my current setup and so no urge to join Bear Blog but I do like their mindset. There are good people writing about interesting things over there.
### web stuff & color schemes
[Smol CSS](https://smolcss.dev) is a collection of small CSS code snippets for quickly achieving layout grids and responsive elements. Nice bits to drop into your code.
Here are a few more color schemes for use on the web. I've updated the [[color and tools]] page with these selections.
- [Open Color](https://yeun.github.io/open-color/) - pretty cool system. Turns out I had found this previously but worth sharing again since I'm rediscovering it myself.
- [Uchū Color](https://uchu.style) - a new one to me. Good lights and dark range for a full rainbow of colors.
### web mention
It always surprises me when someone discovers my site and takes a minute to write a note. I've actually gotten a half dozen or so messages in the last few weeks. Apparently people are starting to find my site. That's so cool.
[Paolo Gabriel](https://www.paologabriel.com/start-here/#how-it-works) actually has a quote from my site on his site. He's put a lot of technical work into building out his digital garden. I like how it is coming along so far. He's gotten me interested in joining a web ring or two as the next step in joining a community.
