# creativity quotes Famous creative-type people have found ways to make a living doing what they love. I expect they have a pretty good understanding of the creative process and so it is probably worth listening to what they have to say. Of course, they are only speaking from their own experience so the ideas may not be universal and may not resonate with everyone. So take what you will from them, make it your own, and [[get to work]]. I tend to write down quotes that catch my attention wherever I’m at which means I tend to lose them just as quick as I find them. I have been writing them down in my daily pages as a combination journal and [commonplace book](https://imperfectjournaling.com/commonplace-book/). It isn’t a great approach since I have to go back through old stuff to find things I kind of remember writing down. There needs to be a better way. I’m hoping I can get in the habit of putting them here instead as a landing zone before processing and placing somewhere appropriate. Here are some unsorted quotes that need to find a home somewhere. > The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking, you've got to have a 'what the hell' attitude. > — Julia Child > It makes no difference how long it takes or how difficult it is. If the final product is marvelous, it's worth the effort. > — Julia Child > Mainly play the things on the piano which please you, even if the teacher does not assign those…Doing what you love, the way you like to do it is the way to learn the most, that when you are doing something with such enjoyment that you don’t notice that the time passes. > — Albert Einstein (in a letter to his son) > Invention, strictly speaking, is little more than a new combination of those images which have been previously gathered and deposited in the memory; nothing can come from nothing. > — Sir Joshua Reynolds > "Inspiration usually comes during work, rather than before it." > — Madeleine L’Engle > "Learn to get in touch with silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose. There are no mistakes, no coincidences; all events are blessings given to us to learn from. There is no need to go to India or anywhere else to find peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden or even your bathtub." > — Elisabeth Kübler-Ross > It's not where you take things from— it’s where you take them to. > — Jean-Luc Godard There are more in this [cool quote generator I built](https://chad-bennett.github.io/creativity-quotes/) and here’s [a much bigger list of creativity quotes](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12oXbnRKasETC89wplWKKBy-LI7PZe2gkb2TpMrSC4z0/edit?usp=sharing). --- tags: #creativity #process home: [[! visual inspiration]]
