# substance painter [Adobe Substance Modeler](https://www.adobe.com/products/substance3d-modeler.html) is a program for creating 3D models using digital clay tools. It is like sculpting with real clay, only you won’t get your hands dirty. **Big Important Note: Modeler currently only works for Windows. Mac and Linux users don’t get to play along.** ## resources Substance Painter is used to texture and paint 3D models. This is your best place to start when looking for reference help. ## basic quick-keys ### navigation Painter uses some of the same Navigation keys as the other Substance apps while there are some dedicated specifically to material workflow. - **Alt-LeftMouse**: Rotate around the model - **Alt-MiddleMouse**: Pan from side to side - **Alt-RightMouse**: Zoom in and out - **F**: Focus on object/zoom to fit - **F1**: view both 3D and 2D maps - **F2**: view only 3D - **F3**: view only 2D maps ### lighting Painter has a basic environment map that lights the scene. Adjust in Display Settings in upper-right of interface. **Shift-RightMouse** to rotate the lighting while working.
