# remove noise from arnold renders
Maya has default rendering engines that do a decent job of taking a picture of your scene. For better quality images, you will want to use the Arnold renderer instead.
Arnold tends to leave a lot of grainy noise in its renders.
# arnold render settings
Open the Arnold Render Settings.
### sampling
The renderer samples the area around each pixel to figure out how…
With most of these settings, the number you choose increases exponentially. For example, a Sample of 2 would actually be 2x2 for a total of 4 samples and a Sample of 4 would actually be 4x4 for a total of 16 samples. So, adjust slowly.
Increasing the number of samples will reduce the amount of noise in the final rendering. However it can signficantly increase the rendering time. You can keep your samples low for development work and then increase the number of samples when making your final render.
